Month overview and focus points
This month we begin to focus more on racing and less on base and strength training. We definitely left a little on the table with the number of conflicts in December; however overall, the strength portion went well and the time on snow was used to build up some technical skills and fitness. Expect hard days to be harder in January and easy days to be easier as we try to build Vo2 Max and our ability to carry the mechanics of easy skiing into harder efforts. For those over racing easy days will be extremely important. These are not days off as the easy days on snow are still extremely important to build mechanical efficiency and comfort of skis. For those doing strength outside of practice, you should limit that to one day a week or less on heavy race weeks. You will still receive some strength benefit from the work we do on skis that may be more applicable to faster skiing in February. Because of the frequency of wax days and race days, skiing a longer ski on weekends 1.5-2hrs at lower intensity would be a favorably beneficial way to climb the results column through the remainder of the season.
